About Cat

Catherine (Cat) Wise is an award-winning independent journalist and a Special Correspondent for the PBS NewsHour. She has traveled throughout the U.S. and internationally for the past two decades covering a variety of issues including health care, science, education, arts and culture, technology, politics, and breaking news.

In 2023, Cat was part of a NewsHour reporting team that won a Peabody Award for Guns in America, a series of reports on the gun violence epidemic and its impact on communities and survivors.

Throughout her career, Cat has focused on issues confronting America’s families including the lack of affordable child care, the opioid epidemic, teen mental health, and childhood trauma. She has been the correspondent for two in-depth PBS NewsHour series: Raising the Future - American’s Child Care Dilemma and Invisible Scars - America’s Childhood Trauma Crisis.

In October 2021, Cat and Producer Kate McMahon’s reporting was part of a special PBS NewsHour primetime documentary on the child care crisis.
